2014-15 WordMasters Challenge™
Meet #2 Results

Congratulations to all the students who participated in the second meet of the 2014-15 WordMasters Challenge™, especially to those representing the Top Ten schools in each division listed below.

We apologize to the many teams that were unable to submit Meet #2 scores by the score submission deadline due to unanticipated school delays and closings related to the extraordinary winter weather experienced in many parts of the country.  We hope you understand that any extension of Meet #2 deadlines necessarily affects the Meet #3 scheduled dates, which were established so that all cumulative results will be available for acknowledgement and celebration before the end of the school year throughout the nation.  If your school was not able to submit Meet #2 scores, please be sure to maintain a record of your students' results so that you can add them to Meet #1 and Meet #3 scores to determine cumulative standings.

Given the amount of lost classroom time for so many of our participants, we expected to see a decline in median team scores.  However, in the BLUE DIVISION, the median team score actually increased in Grades 5 and 7, and 60 fifth graders achieved a perfect score of 20!  We did note a significant decrease in the median team scores for Grades 3 and 6, but did not receive feedback about any particularly challenging analogies.

In the GOLD DIVISION of the WordMasters Challenge™, the median team score for most grades stayed constant or increased, and the total number of perfect scores reported grew by over 40%.  The median team score for Grade 3 jumped by 19 points compared to Meet #1!  On the other hand, the median team score for Grade 8 dipped by 17 points for Meet #2.  One contributing factor to the drop in scores is a typographical error on the 8G word list for Meet #3; the word "structure" (#7 on the list) should have been "stricture". We did not discover the mistake until after the beginning of the Meet #2 testing window, and elected not to alert 8G Team Leaders until the end of the meet term so that teams that had already taken the Challenge were not unfairly disadvantaged.  Please notify your 8G students that they should make this correction to their Meet #2 word list.

Be sure to examine the charts that follow the lists of Outstanding Teams, which are the best tools to use in assessing your own students' achievements.  As always, students scoring 18 or better should be extremely proud of their achievement.

Congratulations to the following Outstanding Teams in the Blue Division:
