2017-18 WordMasters Challenge™
Meet #2 Results

Congratulations to all the students who participated in the second meet of the 2017-18 WordMasters Challenge™, especially to those representing the Top Ten schools in each division listed below.

Team Leaders, please keep in mind that the competition is purposefully designed to be very difficult, and student scores do not usually reflect typical classroom achievement.  Only a small percentage of participants earn scores over 15 (which correlates to 75% correct); therefore, we do not recommend that unadjusted scores be recorded as classroom grades.  Remember that your goal should be individual and team improvement over time.  The most critical step in the WordMasters Challenge™ process is reviewing the tests and discussing the logic behind the analogies.  Don't skip this important activity!

In the BLUE DIVISION, the 5th Grade Challenge proved particularly difficult, with a median team score of 120 points.  In the 7th Grade/Blue Division, only 3 individuals achieved a perfect score: Juliette H. and Sam P. from Carleton Washburne in Winnetka, IL, and Eva S. from Congressional Schools of Virginia, located in Falls Church.  A special congratulations to Sandra Evans and her students at Hong Kong International School, whose 7B team earned a fifth place finish in only their first year of competition. Similar kudos to the 8th grade team at Sunset Middle School in Brentwood, TN, which placed sixth in its first year competing in the WordMasters Challenge™.

Median team scores for the 8th grade in the GOLD DIVISION were exceptionally high, led by the 8G team at Eastern Middle School in Riverside, CT, who posted a perfect score of 200 points!  The 6G and 7G teams at Eastern Middle School also achieved Top Ten results.  In the 3rd Grade/Gold Division, we had to drop one analogy from the Meet #2 test for clerical reasons, so the 58 students who scored 19 points are being recognized as Perfect Score recipients.  With a team score of 190 points, the 3G team from Spring Hill Elementary School in McLean, VA, earned the highest possible score.  And congratulations to the fifth graders at Bella Vista Elementary School in San Ramon, CA, who placed two 5G teams in the Top Ten.

Team Leaders, if you had one or more teams place among the Top Ten in its division and/or any of your students earned a perfect score, we will be sending you a DRAFT press release by March 23rd.  Since we email the press releases as Word documents, you may edit and distribute the press release at your discretion.  Keep in mind that we email these press releases only to our primary contact at a school, so be sure to share the good news with your fellow Team Leaders and school administrators. If you would like to create your own press release, there is a downloadable template here on our Teacher Tools page.

Be sure to examine the charts that follow the lists of Outstanding Teams, which are the best tools for assessing your own students' achievements.   As always, students scoring 18 or better should be extremely proud of their achievement.

Congratulations to the following Outstanding Teams in the Blue Division
