Why doesn't the WordMasters Challenge provide definitions with the words?
We believe looking up a word’s definition during practice or after the competition is a major part of the learning process. In fact, we highly encourage students to utilize the dictionary because it helps them to learn the spelling, pronunciation, grammar, prepositions, word families and more. It also promotes good life-long habits and helps them become autonomous, self-sufficient learners.

WordMasters Challenge™ uses the Webster's New World College Dictionary, Fourth Edition.

Enrollment

What are the dates for the current WordMasters Challenge™?
The full calendar can be accessed by clicking on Challenge Schedule on the right margin of this page, or by clicking on Challenge Schedule under the Enroll tab.

I need to submit an order form to request a Purchase Order. Is there a form I can download?
Yes, just click here to download our Order Form.  You can complete this form and submit it to your purchasing department to generate a Purchase Order.  Please encourage Purchasing to include the completed Order Form when submitting the Purchase Order to ensure we have all the information we need to complete your registration.

Can I sign up more than one team per grade level?
Sure, you can sign up as many teams as you want at each grade/division (just enter the desired  number of teams in the quantity box on the enrollment form).  For example, you may want to enter your entire third grade as one team.  Or you could enter each classroom as a separate team (e.g. Mrs. Smith’s Third Grade and Mr. White’s Third Grade).  Or you could enroll a Blue Division team and a Gold Division team in the same grade.  Just remember, only the top ten scores for each team are used to calculate the team score.

Billing & Shipping

Do you offer discounts for schools enrolling multiple teams?
Discounts are based on the total number of teams enrolled by your school.  If you register 5-9 teams at the same school, you will receive a 10% discount on Challenge fees; if you sign up 10-15 teams, your discount is 15%; if you enroll 20 or more teams, your discount is 20%.  The discount will be automatically applied when you register online.
Note: The discount applies only to Challenge fees, not purchases of Analogies 101, Practice Sets, or merchandise.

What about discounts for my school district?
District discounts are based on the number of schools enrolled in our program, not the number of teams.  If your district enrolls teams from 5-9 schools, you qualify for our DISTRICT10 discount (10% off Challenge fees); if your district enrolls teams from 10-19 schools, you qualify for our DISTRICT15 discount (15% off Challenge fees); if your district enrolls teams from 20 or more schools, you qualify for our DISTRICT20 discount (20% off Challenge fees.

Since our online enrollment program cannot determine which district each school customer belongs to, you must enter the discount code (DISTRICT10, DISTRICT15, or DISTRICT20) in the "District Discount Code" box on the Shopping Cart page and hit "Apply".  Please contact us if you are not sure if your district qualifies for a discount.

Note: The discount applies only to Challenge fees, not purchases of Analogies 101, Practice sets, or merchandise.

What do I pay for shipping on certificates, medals and other merchandise?
Shipping is FREE for all orders!  No extra charges—our shipping costs are included in your purchase price. (Expedited shipping costs apply if you need overnight or two-day delivery.  Also, incremental shipping costs will be charged to customers located outside of the United States.  Please call or email for more details.)

What happens if I cannot pay by credit card when I enroll online?
We understand that many teachers and administrators cannot pay by credit card at the time of ordering.  We will send an invoice by email once your order has been processed.  However, we cannot ship any merchandise until we have received payment or a purchase order.  If you order any logo merchandise or extra awards at the time you enroll, we will wait to ship your items until we have received payment.

If I order WordMasters Challenge™ merchandise items now, when will I receive them?
Merchandise orders are typically fulfilled within 2-3 working days.  Please allow up to 5 additional working days for shipping via the U.S. Postal Service.

What is your refund policy?

  • Refunds for team enrollments may be requested prior to the start of the competition on October 1st. No refund requests after October 1st will be honored.
  • There are no refunds for Analogies 101 Sets or Practice Sets at any time since these materials are electronically delivered at time of purchase.
  • There are no refunds on Merchandise purchases. If merchandise is damaged during delivery, please contact us to arrange an exchange or replacement.

Scoring

What happens if I don’t get my scores reported by the deadline?
We try to give you plenty of time to submit your scores by allowing one extra week following the testing period. Our automated scoring system will calculate team scores and produce reports including top-scoring teams in each divison and listings of perfect score recipients in each division.  We cannot accept any scores for a particular meet after its Score Submission deadline, so please schedule your meet accordingly.

If you miss a deadline, you will have to maintain the scores for that meet and manually add them to your submitted scores to calculate cumulative year-end scores for each student.

Should I enter only the scores of my top ten students, or scores for every student?
Each team's score for the competition is determined by summing the ten highest individual scores submitted for each meet.  However, since there is no limit to the number of students on each team, we recommend that you submit scores for all your students so that our system can accurately report cumulative year-end scores and determine if any of your students are eligible for special recognition such as Highest Honors, High Honors or Honorable Mention.

How can I confirm that my scores have been properly submitted?
Once you enter a score and tab out of the score box, you will see the score appear in a bold, dark blue font.  This indicates that the score is in our database.  Once you have completed entering all your scores, you can click on "Submit Scores" to complete the process.  If you would like further confirmation that your scores have been submitted correctly, click on "EMAIL RESULTS" at the top of the online form and send a copy of the score report to yourself. Please do not send a copy of the score report to WordMasters.

Eligibility

I homeschool my student(s).  How can we participate in the WordMasters Challenge™?
You can enroll your homeschooled children the same way public and private schools sign up.  Choose the grade and difficulty level most appropriate for your student(s).  If your “team” is simply an individual child or just a few children, your scores will be recorded and included in recognition of individual performance (when appropriate) rather than the team competition, since team scores are based on a compilation of 10 individual scores.

You will also need to complete, sign and return the Non-School Enrollment Form prior to accessing progam materials online.

My school does not have a WordMasters Challenge™ program, but I would love for my child to participate.  Is that possible?
Sure, just enroll your child online and list your home contact information.  Under "School Type", choose "Individual". Your child's scores will be recorded and included in recognition of individual performance (when appropriate) rather than the team competition, since team scores are based on a compilation of 10 individual scores.

You will also need to complete, sign and return the Non-School Enrollment Form prior to accessing progam materials online.

Can I combine students from multiple grades to form a team?
We have many schools and organizations that combine students from more than one grade in order to have enough participants to form a complete team (at least ten students).  We allow this grouping, but require that you enroll multi-grade teams in the grade level of the oldest students participating (e.g., fourth and fifth graders combined on a team must compete in Grade 5/Blue Division or Grade 5/Gold Division). We do not recommend combining more than two grade levels on the same team.
