WordMasters FAQs: Team Size and Combining Grade Levels

Posted by

As many schools are enrolling for the 2013-14 WordMasters Challenge, here are answers to two commonly asked questions to help you plan your team(s).

How many students can be on each team?

There is no limit to the number of students that can compete on a team. However, only the top ten scores per meet are used to calculate your Team Score.

Can I mix grade levels to make a team?

WordMasters has many multi-grade teams and it works well. We simply require that the team be enrolled at the grade level of the oldest students in the group.

Combining grades works best for:

  • Smaller schools who may not have enough students to report the top ten scorers in a single grade,
  • Homeschool groups, or
  • Schools who offer WordMasters as a multi-grade enrichment program.

The bottom line is there are multiple ways to implement the program. If you have questions about the best way to offer WordMasters at your school, please contact us.
