2022-2023 WordMasters Challenge Meet #1 Results

The results of the first meet of the 36th annual WordMasters Challenge™ are in!  Congratulations to all the teams that placed among the Top Ten in their division, as well as the students who earned a perfect score of 20! Please see the charts below for more details, or go to the View Reports page on your dashboard and select Meet #1 from the dropdown box.

As always, please keep in mind that scores in the WordMasters Challenge™ do not reflect typical classroom results; in many divisions, less than 5% of participants score 18 or above.  Remember that everyone's goal should be individual and team improvement over time. The most critical step in the WordMasters Challenge™ process is reviewing the tests and discussing the logic behind the analogiesDon't skip this important activity!

In the BLUE DIVISION, a team of eighth graders from Lincoln Hall in Lincolnwood, IL, started the year off right with a perfect score of 200 points!  Their peers at Peterson Middle School in Sunnyvale, CA, were only one point off the mark with a score of 199. Our youngest competitors faced a tough Challenge this round, with a median team score for third grade of only 125 points.  Special congratulations to the four third graders nationwide who posted a perfect score of 20: Joseph Z. from M. C. Riley Elementary in Beaufort, SC; James V. from Prattville Elementary in Prattville, AL; Mary L. from Skaggs Elementary in Plano, TX; and Forrest R. from Teton County School District PEAK in Jackson, WY.

In the GOLD DIVISION of the WordMasters Challenge™, we also had one team that achieved a perfect score of 200 -- congratulations to the sixth graders from Annunciation Orthodox School in Houston, TX!  The first Challenge was especially difficult for the third graders in the Gold Division as well.  Kudos to the four third graders who earned a perfect score: Owen D. from Bibich Elementary School in Dyer, IN; Nora G. and Rebecca H. from Spartanburg School District 7 in Spartanburg, SC; and Henry O. from The Avery Coonley School in Downers Grove, IL.

Team Leaders, if you had one or more teams place among the Top Ten in its division and/or any of your students earned a perfect score, we will be sending you a DRAFT press release by December 22nd. Since we email the press releases as Word documents, you may edit and distribute the press release at your discretion.  If you would like to create your own press release, click here for a downloadable template.

Be sure to examine the charts that follow the lists of Outstanding Teams, which are the best tools for assessing your own students' achievements.  As always, students scoring 18 or better should be extremely proud of their achievement.

Congratulations to the following Outstanding Teams in the Blue Division:
