2020-2021 WordMasters Challenge™
Meet #2 Results

Congratulations to all the students who participated in the second meet of the 2020-2021 WordMasters Challenge™, especially to those representing the Top Ten schools in each division listed below.

We recognize that many of you are still facing a myriad of scheduling and curriculum challenges, making it difficult to meet with your students to prepare for the WordMasters Challenge™ meets or to complete testing within the prescribed time frame.  Hang in there -- the end of the pandemic is in sight!  If you were unable to enter scores by the submission deadline for either Meet #1 or Meet #2, please save the scores in a safe place so that you can add them to your Meet #3 scores to determine cumulative results.  DO NOT SKIP a test even if you cannot meet the deadline because the students will benefit from the experience, regardless of whether their scores "count" in the national competition.

Team Leaders, please keep in mind that the competition is purposefully designed to be very difficult, and student scores do not usually reflect typical classroom achievement.  Only a small percentage of participants earn scores over 15 (which correlates to 75% correct); therefore, we do not recommend that unadjusted scores be recorded as classroom grades.  Remember that your goal should be individual and team improvement over time.  The most critical step in the WordMasters Challenge™ process is reviewing the tests and discussing the logic behind the analogies.  Don't skip this important activity!

In the BLUE DIVISION, special congratulations go out to the third grade team from Armstrong Elementary School in Dallas, TX, for earning a third place Meet #2 finish (as well as an eighth place Meet #1 finish) in just their first year of competition -- way to go, Eagles!  Median team scores for grades 3-6 were lower than usual, no doubt a reflection of reduced group instruction time for many programs.  Only 124 students across all six grade levels scored a perfect 20 in this meet, so the students listed in the Perfect Score links below should be especially proud of their achievements.

Two teams scored a perfect 200 in the GOLD DIVISION:  the fourth grade team from St. Mark's School of Texas in Dallas, and the fifth graders at Pace Academy Lower School in Atlanta, GA.  Congratulations to all these students and their remarkable performance!  A special shout-out to my NJ neighbors at Dr. Joyanne D. Miller School in Egg Harbor Township -- both the fourth and fifth grade teams earned Top Ten finishes in this meet.

Team Leaders, if you had one or more teams place among the Top Ten in its division and/or any of your students earned a perfect score, we will be sending you a DRAFT press release by March 22nd.  Since we email the press releases as Word documents, you may edit and distribute the press release at your discretion.  Keep in mind that we email these press releases only to our primary contact at a school, so be sure to share the good news with your fellow Team Leaders and school administrators. If you would like to create your own press release, there is a downloadable template here on our Teacher Tools page.

Be sure to examine the charts that follow the lists of Outstanding Teams, which are the best tools for assessing your own students' achievements.   As always, students scoring 18 or better should be extremely proud of their achievement.

Congratulations to the following Outstanding Teams in the Blue Division:
