Congratulations for completing the first of three meets in the 2021-2022 WordMasters Challenge™! Although we understand many of you needed to take a breather from WordMasters last year to deal with the ever-changing challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, we are so happy to have you back.  Hopefully, the addition of a Google Forms option for test-taking has made program administration a little bit easier for you.  Of course, there is nothing wrong with completing our tests the "old-fashioned way" with paper and pencil!

Meet #1 results are summarized in the tables below. Congratulations to students and Team Leaders representing the Top Ten schools in each division as well as the students who achieved a perfect score of 20 on the first of three Challenge tests.  Be sure to examine the charts that follow the lists of Outstanding Teams, as these are the best tools for assessing your own students' achievements.

Team Leaders and parents, please keep in mind that scores in the WordMasters Challenge™ do not reflect typical classroom results; in many divisions, less than 5% of participants score 18 or above. Reassure your students that they should see their scores improve in Meets #2 and #3 because they will have a clearer expectation of the test content and how to prepare effectively. Remember that everyone's goal should be individual and team improvement over time. The most critical step in the WordMasters Challenge™process is reviewing the tests and discussing the logic behind the analogies. Don't skip this important activity!

In the BLUE DIVISION, three schools earned perfect team scores of 200; congratulations to the third graders from Chestnutwold Elementary School in Havertown, PA, and to the eighth grade teams from NYC Lab Middle School in New York City and Peterson Middle School in Sunnyvale, CA!  The seventh grade division was on fire with perfect individual scores submitted for 72 students, and all Top Ten team scores above 190 points! A special shout out to the 3B team from Metro Christian Academy in Tulsa, OK, for placing among the Top Ten in their very first WordMasters Challenge meet.

Only one team in the GOLD DIVISION of the WordMasters Challenge™achieved a perfect score of 200 -- kudos to the eighth graders from Miller Middle School in San Jose, CA!  The 4G test proved to be especially difficult this time around, but perennial stronghold St. Mark's School of Texas pulled out another first place finish.  Third grade teams from three Lake Central School Corporation (northwestern Indiana) schools earned Top Ten placements: Peifer Elementary, Homan Elementary and Bibich Elementary Schools.  Similarly, five teams representing CCSD 15 schools in Palatine, IL, placed within the Top Ten of their division: 4G teams from Frank C. Whiteley School and Hunting Ridge School, and 6G teams from Frank C. Whiteley School, Hunting Ridge School and Central Road School.  Special congratulations go out to the 9 fourth graders, 9 fifth graders and 8 seventh graders who achieved perfect individual scores -- you can check out the details by clicking on the links below.

Team Leaders, if you had one or more teams place among the Top Ten in its division and/or any of your students earned a perfect score, we will be sending you a DRAFT press release by January 5th. Since we email the press releases as Word documents, you may edit and distribute the press release at your discretion.  If you would like to create your own press release, click here for a downloadable template.
